A Home for the Holidays

I hope everyone had a magical holiday and a very happy New Year!

My holiday was wonderful. This year, in addition to my traditional Interior Design services, I had the opportunity to make a client’s dreams come true for her home in preparation for holiday parties.

First, for those who are not familiar with my Interior Design firm “Barbara Hyman Interiors,” let me introduce myself; I opened my Interior Design business in Pennsylvania in 1999, after working with a mentor in the industry and attending Philadelphia School of Textiles and Design. In 2004, I made Southwest Florida my permanent home, and have been “designing, renewing and refreshing” my clients homes in every way so that the end result is a beautiful, comfortable, and functional home that fits their personality and lifestyle.

I am happy to say that most of my business has come from referrals. Year after year, our clients return with a new list of wishes and desires for their Florida homes.

After an initial consultation and selection process many of our clients hand over their keys and let us go to work while they go back to their other homes. The entire project is under our supervision and the client doesn’t need to deal with any disruptions to their lives, ultimately returning to a completely redecorated room or home of their dreams.

One of my clients , the Bakers have used my services in their Fairview home in Shadow Wood Country Club recently moved to a larger home in Magnolia Bend. This past holiday season, Mrs. Baker approached me about helping her prepare her home for the large holiday parties they had planned. Holiday decorating is not a typical task for an Interior Designer, but I believe in going the extra mile and providing my clients with whatever help they need to make their “dream home” visions come to life.

With my background in several creative areas I fell back on my days as a “Special Events

Coordinator”. Yes, I use to plan parties for Bally’s Grand Casino. The Bakers knowing this hired me to “bring it all together” for them.

The Process

For the Bakers holiday project, our objective was to coordinate the best possible elements complimenting the color palette and sophisticated transitional design of the home. A red and green Christmas just doesn’t work in everyone’s home. As a designer I was able to work closely with the Holiday Décor Company to create the proper harmony, scale, placement and just the right influences to customize the holiday decorations for the Bakers beautiful home.

When I design a space I try to reach out to all of the senses. This starts with the welcoming feeling you experience as you enter through the front door. The 12 ft. snow flocked tree presented itself in all its glory, and was beautifully stationed in front of the huge bay window overlooking the lanai. It was perfectly positioned, as it was also visible from the outside lanai. The ornaments and each element used on the tree was hand selected to compliment the colors and design of the home décor. Shades of taupe, gray, platinum, silver and gold set off by the twinkle of white lights created a magical theme throughout the home. The warm aroma of essential oil placed in a textured platinum dish of organic white pine cones, shimmery snowflakes and berries sitting on the coffee table, just drew you in.

Lighting is also a very important factor when pulling this all together. From candlelit votives on the high top tables outside to the magnificent outdoor backlighting of plants and trees, the home took on a magical holiday glow that beautifully accented the décor.

Below are just a few photos of this project. At Barbara Hyman Interiors, we have a commitment to unyielding client service. We will continue to go above and beyond for each and every person that we work with, and can help you create the home of your dreams.
